The June newsletter of the Australia-China Friendship Society has been released. It includes reports of the Jiangsu People-to-People Conference, comment on Taiwan's Accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, and cultural notes.
The Ken Smith donation catalogue is now available with prices.
The Australia-China Friendship Society is holding a Special General Meeting, with a Guest Speech on "East meets West", and Yum Cha event at Ross House on Sunday June 22.
The meeting will begin at 12 noon with a Special General Meeting. The purpose of this brief meeting is a recommended change to the Constitution regarding membership. The text of the change is as follows:
MOTION: "THAT section 4(11) of the Constitution be replaced with: (11) (a) In addition ordinary annual membership there will be option for Life Membership, which can be purchased at ten times the rate of ordinary annual membership. (b) In addition to Life Membership, a member may be granted Honorary Life Membership. This will be granted by motion at the Annual General Meeting of the Association to members who have contributed significantly to the objects of the Association over many years. (c) A member granted Honorary Life Membership that has an existing Life Membership may transfer their Life Membership to another party."
The guest speaker, Dr. Fiona Price, will begin her address at 12.30 on the topic on "East Meets West" theme, opening with stereotypes, looking at education (Australians learning Chinese and Chinese students studying in Australia) and closing with East-Meets- West cuisine, with a focus on the mighty "dim sim". Dr. Price, is a trilingual (Chinese, English, French) speaker and cultural presenter.
Following Dr Price's presentation members and friends of the ACFS can participate in Yum Cha, with fine green tea, dumplings, and other assorted foods.
